Mary McCartney And Judi Dench Want Animal-Tested Cosmetics Banned
Mary McCartney – daughter of Sir Paul – and Dame Judi Dench are the latest stars to sign the Cruelty-Free 2013 petition calling on European Union politicians to honour their pledge to ban the sale of animal-tested cosmetics.
The petition by Humane Society International/Europe has also been signed by Leona Lewis, Ricky Gervais and ‘Sporty Spice’ Melanie C, as well as nearly 50,000 compassionate consumers.
“Subjecting animals to pain and suffering just so that we can produce a new shade of lipstick or eye-shadow is simply cruel and unnecessary in this day and age,” said Mary McCartney. “EU politicians promised to ban the sale of cruelly-tested cosmetics by 2013 and I sincerely believe they should honour that ethical pledge.”
Animal testing for cosmetics is banned in the UK and EU, but products and ingredients tested on animals in countries such as Brazil, China, Canada and the United States can still be sold in EU shops.
“Using animals to test cosmetics is cruel and should be stopped,” said Dame Judi. “These days there are other means of testing which do not involve animal suffering. I totally support a sales ban and urge EU politicians to keep their promise to help stop this practice by 2013.”
A European Union-wide ban on the sale of animal-tested cosmetics is due to come into force in March 2013, and could be a major step toward a global end to cosmetics animal testing. However, in the face of the 2013 deadline, and an imminent requirement on the European Commission to propose legislation to either retain or delay the sales ban, the lives of thousands of rabbits, guinea pigs and other animals hang in the balance.

Somehow, this piece appears as if it was part of a mascot. The bulgy eye just looks really cartoonish. But I do like the edgy spikes. I wonder why they named this Captured, though. Don't you just think that the above Greenwich home designed by Lynne Scalo feels so clean and fresh..perfect for Spring. To see more of the space go here. I actually spotted the space in the Spring issue of Luxe while in the airport flying home from a snowy long weekend in Utah. I could not believe the snow had the nerve to try and welcome in the month of May. Actually I kind of liked it..sorry Utah friends.
Also, this whole buying things on Ebay has worked out nicely these days. I finally got my brass chair. I think I need to stop it with the whole spot thing (refer to the new spotted linen fabric below).

Tiffany?s Twist Ring is a Copy of Kiel Mead?s Forget Me Knot
Tiffany & Co. has unveiled their Twist Ring recently as part of their Mother’s Day gift item suggestion. They define this as inspired by “the time-honored craft of hand-twisting wire” but it also looks strikingly similar to a ring that Kiel Mead, a Brooklyn based designer, has done in 2005, called the Forget Me Know ring. Mead tells Mediabistro’s Unbeige — ?My design is actually a piece of string that is molded and cast in various materials such as silver and gold. It took some trial and error to get the final product to look like my conceptualization.? He also mentions that this is not the first time his work has been redesigned and copied. 'Dancing With the Stars' results: Top 4 couples revealed
Who's going home on tonight's Dancing With the Stars? As usual on Tuesday nights, that is the question.
First up we learn that Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Hines Ward and Kym Johnson are all safe.
Besides the results, there are a lot of pieces of filler (Dance Center! Michael Bolton!), but my favorite is Adele singing "Rolling in the Deep" while Travis Wall from SYTYCD and three other dancers (including another winner whose name is failing me) perform a dance that Travis himself choreographed.
More results: Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff are in jeopardy, as are Romeo and Chelsie Hightower, which means Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas are safe.
Final results: The ousted couple is Romeo and Chelsie.
She does not look amused, and Ralph and Karina are shocked and relieved. Romeo says he is surprised because it was one of his best dances, but not surprised because everyone who is left is so good. He says they went out with a bang. He credits Chelsie for being such a great teacher.

Trailer Time: The Adventures of Tintin
Steven Spielberg returns to the director's chair for the first time since 2008's Indiana Jones the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. He's also got the live action War Horse coming out at the end of the year. That one's more Oscar bait. This one looks like an imaginative fantasy flick that audiences of all ages will enjoy. One setback: it's motion capture animation. Uh, Mr. Spielberg - that's so five years ago. Didn't you get the memo about the fallout from Mars Needs Moms? Nick Cannon's Take Action Leadership Event
On Saturday May 21, 29 Los Angeles Unified Schools will send their biggest and best on-campus celebrities to compete in a head-to-head battle to determine the district’s best singers,dancers, musicians, visual artists and spoken word performers at the Beyond the Bell Take Action Leadership Campaign event.
Competition winners will receive scholarships, awards and prizes awarded by Hollywood celebrities such as Nick Cannon (Teen Nick Chairman, America’s Got Talent), Romeo Miller (Jumping The Broom), Allison Iraheta (Top 4 finalist on American Idol), Teck Holmes (The Real World, Hole In The Wall Host), Jason “2Z” Duncan (Stomp the Yard 1 & 2), by Poreotics (Current Champions of Randy Jackson’s America’s Best Dance Crew) and More. In addition Performances are scheduled by Nick Cannon’s Ncredible artists The School Gyrls (self titled Teen Nick Movie), the Wonder Broz (New hit single “Chitty Chitty”), L.A. dance legends the Rangers & Colette Carr (Interscope/Cherry Tree artist). The day will be further highlighted with a 2,000 student flash mob led by celebrity choreographer Chuck Maldonado (Missy Elliott, Usher).
The event will also be attended by various political leaders including L.A. City Councilmembers Tom LaBonge and Jan Perry.
“I loved to perform when I was a teen so I know how important it is for young people to have opportunities to be inspired and to share their gifts with the world,” says Nick Cannon. “There are so many talented kids out there that are like celebrities in the circles they travel in. The great thing about this event is that it really gives them an opportunity to shine, to inspire others and to have something to look forward to.”
Now in its 4th year, Beyond the Bell’s Take Action Leadership Campaign is a district-wide initiative to utilize after school and in-school activities and programming as a vehicle to reduce violence, increase attendance, improve grades and prepare students for college and the job market.
WHERE: The event will take place on three stages on the New York streets of Paramount Pictures in Hollywood , CA. Entrance is through the Windsor gate on Melrose Ave.
